We arrived!!! 31 hours from our home to our hotel in Cape Town. It went as seamless as we could have imagined. Sam was awesome not a complaint and ate all the airplane food that he was awake to consume. Thoughts from today:
South African money is rand (ZAR) and thankfully the conversion is easy, basically $1= 10 ZAR. We made our first purchase at the airport in Joburg waiting for our flight to Cape Town: one Springbok mini rugby ball 99 Rand- well worth it! Played in the airport :)
Grateful for the guy that met us at the gate and took us to the very short lines at customs at security- thanks Tim ;) (Tim Lapage with Safari Experts helped us organize our trip)
Thankful for the Benadryl that knocked us both out for over half of our 14.5 hour flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg, SA.
Sat next to an interesting guy from SA this is a biochemist. He gave us some good pointers regarding not getting Malaria on our trip: Take B12- he said that mosquitos don't like the smell of you when you take B12 (yay last minute I packed some for energy), use Peaceful Sleep mosquito repellant- smells better and has Deet which he said is key in warding off mosquitos.
Always carry cards: Sam and I played Spit, Bamboozle and Gin for a while in the Joburg airport waiting for our connection.
Settled into our hotel down by the water in the Harbor Area. Tomorrow we head up Table Mountain. Off to bed. Excited to see the city, since we arrived at 10:30 p.m. Grateful to have arrived...smooth flying.
